Michael Grunze receives the Gaede-Langmuir Award

October 31, 2018

Michael Grunze has been awarded the Gaede-Langmuir Award of the American Vacuum Society (AVS) for Science and Technology of Materials, Interfaces, and Processing. The award was presented to him on October 24th in Long Beach, California, during the awards ceremony reception at the AVS 65th International Symposium and Exhibition.

The Gaede-Langmuir Award was established in 1977 and is presented biennially to recognize and encourage outstanding discoveries and inventions in the sciences and technologies of interest to AVS. It consists of a cash award, a commemorative plaque stating the nature of the award, and an honorary lectureship at a regular session of the International Symposium.

‘I am very honored to receive this award, which acknowledges the contributions my many students, coworkers and I made – often in collaboration with other groups – to the technical areas relevant to the AVS’, said Michael Grunze on receiving the award last Tuesday.

He is honored for his advances in surface and interface science in research areas ranging from catalysis (e.g., ammonia synthesis) to organic films (e.g., polyimide films and self-assembled monolayers) to biological applications (e.g. non-fouling surfaces and medical implants). He has been “taking surface science from small molecules at surfaces to complex liquid/surface interactions.”

We congratulate Michael Grunze on this award!
