IMPRS for Quantum Dynamics in Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Quantum mechanics is the basic theory to describe the structure and the dynamics of matter. The International Max Planck Research School for Quantum Dynamics in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IMPRS-QD) is a joint initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg University, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, and the Heavy Ion Research Center (GSI) in Darmstadt.

The School offers excellent research opportunities in the fields of chemical, biomolecular, relativistic and ultra-short quantum dynamics, ultra-cold quantum matter, quantum information, and quantum electrodynamics. Excellent supervision by leading experts in these disciplines is a hallmark of this program. Graduate students are trained in all aspects of quantum dynamics with special emphasis on the transition from simple to complex systems. The focus is on the common underlying quantum principles across various fields, which are the basis of a mutual understanding and cross-fertilization between the disciplines.

Besides introductory and advanced level lectures, regular seminars are held. Attending workshops and conferences gives PhD students an opportunity to practice their skills by presenting their own research results. With its multidisciplinary research and education program the school attracts talented and highly motivated students from all over the world.

To obtain a IMPRS-QD scholarship in Physics, PhD students must also be members of the Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics.
