  • Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is one of the highest professional honors for medical and biotechnology engineers.

  • Peer Fischer was honored “for pioneering contributions in nanorobotics, the development of new ultrasound technologies, and for his leadership and engagement in translational science.”

“The appointment is a great honor,” says Peer Fischer. ”I would like to thank my colleagues for their recognition and am particularly pleased that the interface between science and technology transfer, a balancing act between the disciplines in our research, has been honored in this way. This also shows that we are on the right track with our institute's First in Translation plans for our new location in Heilbronn.”

The First in Translation initiative of the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research (MPIMR) prepares fundamental research discoveries for entrepreneurial application. With support from the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, the MPIMR is currently setting up a second site on Heilbronn’s Bildungscampus, which will also provide a home for the institute’s First in Translation activities.

Honor for pioneering work

Membership, according to AIMBE, honors individuals who have made “outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” as well as to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”

AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2025

The induction ceremony into the “2025 Class of the AIMBEE College of Fellows” took place during the AIMBE annual event in Arlington, Virginia, USA, on March 31, 2025. Peer Fischer was inducted along with around 170 colleagues from more than 30 countries who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2025.
